I met Noa in 2017.
It’s cheesy to say a horse changed my life, but she really has. Our connection was instantaneous. The first time we met, I felt like I was looking in a mirror. She matched my energy, she challenged me, she didn’t say yes without asking questions. She continues to make me a better rider, trainer, horsewoman, a better friend and person.
I had big dreams of competing in upper level eventing. Noa is an incredibly driven horse. She had a year of down time between retiring from racing and us becoming partners and it was clear she was ready for work again. In a few short months, she was jumping courses and cross country schooling. We went to our first eventing schooling show 7 months after I bought her.
A few years into our partnership, Noa started showing subtle signs of pain. She was gentle but adamant that I listen and I did. She was diagnosed with kissing spine. I had dealt with many injuries and illnesses in my career but hadn’t ever had a horse be diagnosed with kissing spine. I thought our career was over and I was devastated.
I wanted Noa to be comfortable, even if I couldn’t ride and compete. She was my entire world and all I wanted was for her to be happy. I started researching methods of training, a catalyst that started the journey to human and animal chiropractic school.
Noa was so patient as I learned. I came to realize that kissing spine didn’t have to end our riding career. We partnered with trainers who accounted for not only the physical development of the horse, but also the emotional development.
This type of training is something I am still actively and enthusiastically in pursuit of. It is the foundation for Two by Two Chiropractic. This is a brand born to honor the autonomy and anatomy of the horse, named after the one who started it all, Noa.
Two by Two started with a horse.
